The Belle Aire Social Club meets on the first Monday of the month 6:30pm at Mulberry Recreation Center. World War II Veterans are dying at the rate of 1000 per day. That is not a typo -- 1000 PER DAY. The WWII Memorial in Washington, DC, opened to the public in 2004. But most WWII veterans have not seen this memorial honoring their service to all of mankind, and not many have the means or ability to do so ... until now.
The Honor Flight Network is a national network of non-profit organizations dedicated to transporting as many United States military veterans as possible to see the Washington, D.C. area memorials of the respective war(s) in which they fought at no cost to the veterans. The current focus is taking veterans of World War II to the National World War II Memorial, and any veteran with a terminal illness to see the memorial of the war in which they fought.
An Honor Flight chapter for The Villages, Lake Country, Sumter County and parts of Marion County has been formed. First Flight: the inaugural flight for the Villages Honor Flight is scheduled for 26-May-2012 http://www.villageshonorflight.org
As the inaugural Honor Flight approaches, May 26th., there are some events going on that you might like to be part of:
1.There will be an event at the Lady Lake Town Hall on May 21st at 5:45 p.m. There will be a Proclamation by the Mayor of Lady Lake commemorating May 26th as Villages Honor Flight day.
2. If you would like to be part of the "Welcome Home" group on May 26th., come and join the fun and enjoyment of saying "Welcome home and thank you for your service". This will be the first for some of these WWII veterans. Please be at the American Legion hall between 10:30 and 11:00 p.m. on the 26th of May. American Legion Veterans Memorial Post 347.
